An Ounce of Prevention is Worth a Pound of Cure

Knee ACL injuries are 2–8 times more prevalent in females than in males and peak age for ACL tears is from 15–25 years of age. While no program can guarantee that you will not tear your ACL, studies have shown that appropriate strengthening, flexibility, agility and jump training can reduce risk of non-contact ACL tears by up to 60–80%.

Why is this important? ACL injuries can be painful, take up to 4–6 months to allow you to return to certain activities/sports, make your knee susceptible to earlier arthritis and (as of 2006) cost greater than $17,000 for surgery, rehab and diagnostics.

WHAT:
PEP Program (Prevent injury and Enhance Performance)

Your leg and core strength, flexibility, balance, agility and jumping form will be evaluated. Based on these findings, you will be trained in techniques to improve performance in all of these categories, which can contribute to lowering the risk of tearing your ACL during practice or competition.

WHEN: July 8 – August 14, 2013, Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:00 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. ( 6 weeks)

WHERE: Park High School Track (gymnasium if inclement weather)

WHO: Yellowstone Physical Therapy’s Mary Marshall, DPT, CSCS

COST: $25.00 for the full 6-week program. Scholarships available if needed.
